# Alnar Topples Feijen as 32 Reach Last 64 at Qatar World Cup

*The man who beat Joshua Filler added the Team Europe captain to his tally, while Carlo Biado, David Alcaide and Alex Pagulayan all fell within one loss of elimination in Doha.*

The winners' side of the $450,000 Qatar World Cup 10-Ball has finished sending players through — and on Monday in Doha it sent a few of the sport's biggest names the other way instead.

Thirty-two players reached the last 64 unbeaten by early afternoon at the Ezdan Palace Hotel, headlined by Mustafa Alnar, the Turkish Cypriot who had already produced the shock of the week by toppling second seed Joshua Filler.

## Alnar's run continues; more seeds fall

Alnar followed Sunday's 9-5 defeat of Filler with a 9-7 victory over Niels Feijen — the newly installed Team Europe Mosconi Cup captain — to reach the single-elimination phase without dropping a match.

He was far from the only underdog to advance. Taiwan's Hsieh Chia Chen edged Carlo Biado 9-8 in the day's tightest finish, Qatar's own Bashar Hussain delivered the hosts' best result yet with a 9-4 rout of ninth seed David Alcaide, and Mahmoud Charif survived a hill-hill decider against Alex Pagulayan, 9-8. Estonia's Denis Grabe ended 19-year-old Bernie Regalario's unbeaten run 9-5.

## The 32 through to the last 64

The top seeds who negotiated the winners' side cleanly included Fedor Gorst, a 9-3 winner over Jefrey Roda, and Francisco Sanchez Ruiz, who held off Habib El Hussein 9-7. Poland put three men through — 2024 champion Daniel Maciol, Dominik Jastrzab and Mateusz Sniegocki — while Alexander Kazakis, Robbie Capito, Duong Quoc Hoang and Greece's Dimitrios Loukatos also progressed.

They join the 16 who qualified a day earlier, a group led by defending champion Jonas Magpantay, 2025 runner-up Szymon Kural, home favorite Ali Al-Obaidli and Saudi qualifier Mohammed Baabad.

## Sixteen out; the rest face a win-or-home Monday

The losers' side has already claimed 16 players. Veteran Pole Radoslaw Babica fell 9-6 to Lazar Kostic, Filipino Jeffrey Ignacio lost 9-3 to Wiktor Zielinski — the 15th seed keeping his own tournament alive — and Vietnam's Nguyen Phuc Long went down 9-8 to Dominik Regieli. Albin Ouschan was the headliner among the first-day exits, [beaten by Filipino qualifier Raymund Faraon](/ouschan-out-as-filler-szewczyk-fall-at-qatar-world-cup-10-ball).

The rest of Monday is a survival gauntlet. Filler, Ralf Souquet, Thorsten Hohmann and Aleksa Pecelj were all playing losers' matches as the afternoon session began. The winners then meet the day's fallen seeds in losers' qualification: Biado faces fellow Filipino Mark Estiola in an all-Filipino elimination match, Pagulayan plays the Emirates' Abdulla Juma, Alcaide meets Kostic and Feijen takes on Zein Eddin. Jayson Shaw and world No. 1 Wojciech Szewczyk headline the evening batch.

## What happens next

Once the 32 losers' qualifiers are decided, the field is set for the single-elimination last 64, which begins Tuesday in Doha with races to 11. The champion is crowned Thursday, October 29, in a race-to-13 final worth $100,000.
