# Philippines Open 2026: Alcaide Defends at Gateway Mall

*David Alcaide returns to defend the title he claimed in last year's inaugural running as a 128-player field takes over Gateway Mall in Quezon City, October 20-24.*

Two days after the Reyes Cup wraps up in Makati, the World Nineball Tour stays in metro Manila for the second edition of the Philippines Open Pool Championship - and this time it is every man for himself.

## The format

The tournament uses a 128-player straight-knockout draw, meaning every match is an elimination contest from the opening round. The prize fund is $100,000, and the semi-finals and final are scheduled for October 24.

## The defending champion

Spain's David Alcaide became the event's first champion in its inaugural staging, winning seven consecutive matches and defeating Arseni Sevastyanov in the final. He returns to Gateway Mall to defend that title against a field stacked with the tour's biggest names.

## Who else is in

The entry list drawn from the tour's event page includes world No. 1 Carlo Biado, Joshua Filler, Shane Van Boening, Francisco Sanchez Ruiz, AJ Manas, Jayson Shaw, Aloysius Yapp, Robbie Capito, Duong Quoc Hoang, Jefrey Roda, Johann Chua, Aleksa Pecelj and Bernie Regalario - most of them fresh off Reyes Cup duty days earlier.

## The bigger picture

The Philippines Open is the centerpiece of a busy stretch for the tour: the Reyes Cup (October 15-18) and Philippines Open (October 20-24) in Manila are followed by the junior WNT NXTGEN event in Frisco, Texas (October 27-30) and two Universal Open stops in Asia in November - Ho Chi Minh City (November 11-15) and Bangkok (November 17-21), each carrying a $63,000 prize fund.
