Born in Moscow and now representing the United States, he has competed on both
sides of the sport's two great team rivalries.

Mosconi Cup with Team Europe.

## The Ghost on both sides of the rivalry

Gorst announced himself as a teenager, beating Chang Jung-lin 13–11 to win the
2019 World Pool Championship at 19. A year later he was a Mosconi Cup champion
with Team Europe. Then came the switch few players make: settled in the United
States, he crossed to Team USA from 2023 and has played every Mosconi Cup
since — experiencing nine-ball's transatlantic rivalry from both sides of the
arena.

The 2024 season made his case as the world's best. He took the World Pool
Masters in the spring, edging Joshua Filler 13–12; won his second world title
in June, surviving Eklent Kaçi 15–14; and lifted the US Open in August, beating
[Shane Van Boening](/players/shane-van-boening) 13–10 — the first player to
hold all three of those trophies in one year.

He came within two racks of repeating as world champion in 2025, losing the
Jeddah final 15–13 to [Carlo Biado](/players/carlo-biado), and he reached the
US Open final in both 2023 (lost to Ko Ping Chung) and 2025 (lost to Aloysius
Yapp). In 2026 he has already added the WPA China Open title and a Reyes Cup
crown with Team Rest of the World.
