# Qatar World Cup 10-Ball: Six Last-64 Ties to Watch on Tuesday

*A defending champion under immediate threat, an all-Filipino clash and several seeds crammed into the same afternoon — the last-64 draw in Doha is out.*

The $450,000 Qatar World Cup 10-Ball flips to single elimination on Tuesday at the Ezdan Palace Hotel in Doha. Sixty-four players remain, every match is a race to 11, and there is no second chance left — the losers go home with $3,000, the survivors move a step closer to Thursday's race-to-13 final and the $100,000 top prize.

The draw has thrown up some genuine first-round collisions: a defending champion under immediate threat, an all-Filipino tie, and several seeds funneled into the same afternoon. Two sessions — 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. in Doha (8 a.m. and 11 a.m. UTC). These are the ties to watch.

## Jonas Magpantay vs Hsu Jui An — 11 a.m.

The defending champion gets no soft opener. Magpantay, who beat Szymon Kural 13-9 in last year's final, cruised through the winners' side unbeaten — 9-0 over Zein Eddin, then 9-5 over Jan Van Lierop. Hsu Jui An arrives via the scenic route: the Taiwanese took Eklent Kaci to hill-hill before falling 9-8, then ended two-time world champion Thorsten Hohmann's tournament 9-6 in Monday's qualification decider. Seedings say the champion; momentum is harder to call.

## Ameer Ali vs Joshua Filler — 11 a.m.

Nobody in the field has had a stranger week than Filler. The No. 2 seed was beaten 9-5 by Mustafa Alnar in his opening match, then produced the most ruthless losers'-bracket run of the tournament — 9-1 over Mohammed Albalushi and 9-2 over Jan Van Lierop, three racks dropped across two elimination matches. Iraq's Ameer Ali, unbeaten through 9-3 over Jerson Cumayas and 9-1 over Darryl Chia, is the draw's quiet qualifier — and now runs into the field's most dangerous man on a mission.

## Aivhan Maluto vs Miguel Salvilla — 11 a.m.

The draw's only all-Filipino tie, and the only match guaranteed to send a Filipino into the last 32. Maluto owns the bracket's biggest scalp — he [sent world No. 1 Wojciech Szewczyk to the losers' side 9-6](/ouschan-out-as-filler-szewczyk-fall-at-qatar-world-cup-10-ball) — while Salvilla needed the second route, falling 9-4 to Wu Kun Lin before edging Dennis Laszkowski 9-7. Thirteen Filipinos made the knockout field; this is where two of them meet.

## Mateusz Sniegocki vs Carlo Biado — 2 p.m.

Polish veteran Sniegocki is unbeaten in Doha — 9-6 over Álvaro Canóniga, then a 9-8 hill-hill over Karl Gnadeberg — and his reward is the No. 9 seed and world No. 2. Biado's week wobbled on a hill-hill loss to Hsieh Chia Chen before he steadied through the losers' side 9-6 over Mark Estiola. Two players who have both already been taken to the deciding rack this week.

## Robbie Capito vs David Alcaide — 2 p.m.

A pairing that would not look out of place in the last eight lands in the first knockout round. Hong Kong's Capito, 11th on the World Nineball Tour rankings, has dropped eight racks in two matches. Spain's Alcaide, ranked 10th, had to rebuild through the losers' bracket after Qatar's Bashar Hussain routed him 9-4, and closed out Lazar Kostic 9-7 to get here.

## Mustafa Alnar vs Bernie Regalario — 2 p.m.

The bracket's chief executioner meets the teenager. Alnar authored the draw's biggest damage — 9-5 over Filler on day one, then [9-7 over Niels Feijen](/alnar-topples-feijen-as-32-reach-last-64-at-qatar-world-cup) to reach the knockout unbeaten. Waiting is 19-year-old Regalario, the No. 17 seed, who sent Ralf Souquet to the losers' side in round one and regrouped through the bracket after a 9-5 loss to Denis Grabe.

## Also on the slate

No. 3 seed Francisco Sanchez Ruiz meets Marlon Cañeda, and No. 7 seed Fedor Gorst — six racks dropped in two matches — plays Dutchman Marco Teutscher. Wisam Dakkak's prize for [knocking out Jayson Shaw](/dakkak-stuns-shaw-as-qatar-world-cup-fills-last-64-field) is unbeaten Swede Walter Laikre, who beat Albin Ouschan in round one. Oliver Szolnoki gets Mosconi Cup captain Feijen, 2024 champion Daniel Macioł faces Kuwait's Bader Alawadhi, and last year's runner-up Kural meets Jerson Cumayas.
