# Spanish Open: Echeverria Fells Szewczyk; Semi-Final Bracket Set

*Iker Echeverria ends the Euro Tour leader's run in Gandia; Felix Vogel survives hill-hill, and Luca Menn and Mika van Berkel complete the last four.*

GANDIA, Spain — Sunday morning's quarter-final session at the Revora Spanish Open is complete, and it produced the upset of the week: Spain's Iker Andoni Echeverria beat Euro Tour leader Wojciech Szewczyk 11-7 to carry the home flag into the last four.

## Quarter-Final Results (race to 11)

- **Iker Andoni Echeverria (ESP) 11-7 Wojciech Szewczyk (POL)**
- **Felix Vogel (GER) 11-10 Mieszko Fortunski (POL)**
- **Luca Menn (GER) 11-7 Francisco Sanchez Ruiz (ESP)**
- **Mika van Berkel (NED) 11-7 Fabio Rizzi (FRA)**

## How the Morning Unfolded

Echeverria — who needed Saturday's losers' qualification just to reach the last 32 — produced the result of the tournament, ending top seed Szewczyk's week in front of a partisan home crowd. The last Spaniard standing rode the support all the way and closed it out 11-7.

Vogel survived the tie of the round. Fortunski had been untouchable on Saturday, conceding just six racks across three wins including an 11-0 whitewash of Mateusz Sniegocki — but the quietly efficient German took the deciding rack for an 11-10 win and a first Euro Tour semi-final of the season.

Menn, last year's runner-up at this same venue, ended the second Spanish run by beating former world champion Francisco Sanchez Ruiz 11-7. The German, who lost the 2025 final here to Oliver Szolnoki, is now two wins from going one better.

Van Berkel stopped the bracket's giant-killer. Rizzi arrived off the biggest win of his week — ending Szolnoki's title defence on Saturday night — but the steady Dutchman held their tie throughout for an 11-7 win and the last semi-final place.

## Sunday's Semi-Finals

- **13:00 local:** Echeverria v Vogel — the first semi had already finished by the time this report went up; the EPBF draw records Vogel advancing to the evening final.
- **16:00 local:** Menn v Van Berkel.

The men's final follows at 20:00 local (race to 11), alongside the women's final.

In the women's event the top seed also fell: Germany's Ina Kaplan beat Pia Filler 9-5, while Spain's Maria-Teresa Ropero edged Linnéa Hjalmarström 9-8 to reach the last four.

Why it matters: both top seeds are gone before the semi-finals, the home crowd still had a finalist-in-waiting story until the afternoon session, and Menn gets a shot at the title he lost at this venue a year ago.
