Bustamante Beats Van Boening to Win National 10-Ball Showdown
Joven Bustamante beat Shane Van Boening 5-3 in Thursday's final at Harrah's Cherokee, completing a four-match run through Mast, Morris and Styer for the $5,000 top prize.
Joven Bustamante is the 2026 National 10-Ball Showdown champion. The 16-player invitational closed Thursday night at Harrah's Cherokee Casino Resort with Bustamante beating Shane Van Boening 5-3 in the final — the third and last invitational trophy awarded at the 2026 Ultimate Pool USA Grand Finals.
The title is worth $5,000, with $2,000 to Van Boening as runner-up and $1,000 each to semifinalists Tyler Styer and Gerson Martinez Boza.
Ultimate Pool USA had not published a written recap at press time; every result below is as recorded on the event's official DigitalPool bracket. The Showdown plays to UPL 10-Ball rules on the seven-foot TV table — call-pocket, no jump shots, a 30-second shot clock and a 30-minute match clock — so scores reflect racks won inside the clock rather than a fixed race.
The toughest road to a trophy this week
Nobody in Cherokee had a harder four-match run than Bustamante's Thursday. He opened against the field's only woman, Sofia Mast, and needed every rack of a 7-5 win. In the quarterfinals he edged Rodney Morris — the man who won the Showdown's inaugural edition in Iowa in March — 5-4, then beat Styer 5-2 in the semifinals before taking the title match away from Van Boening.
Van Boening one win short again
Van Boening's route was nearly as demanding: a 5-4 opener against qualifier winner Jesus Atencio, a 5-3 quarterfinal over Roberto Gomez and a second hill-hill finish, 5-4 over Martinez Boza, to reach the title match. It is his second deep run of the week to end just short — he exited the National Shootout in Wednesday's quarterfinals, beaten by Tom Cousins.
The undercard stories
Martinez Boza earned his semifinal the hard way, removing Shootout runner-up Cousins 4-2 in the opening round and then eliminating former Showdown champion Chris Melling 4-3. Wednesday's Shootout winner Oscar Dominguez made the earliest of exits, losing a hill-hill 6-5 decider to Morris barely twenty hours after lifting his trophy. And Styer produced the day's most emphatic scoreline, an 8-0 quarterfinal whitewash of two-time world champion Johnny Archer.

Around the hall
The invitational shared Thursday with the opening day of the National Open, the sold-out 512-player event paying $20,000 to its champion, which runs through Sunday — several Showdown names, Van Boening among them, were on double duty. The league program rolled on around them: the 8-Ball Teams championship builds toward Saturday's $112,000 final, while the National Pairs and Mixed Pairs play their last sessions Friday, when the National Women's Open also begins.
Results as recorded on the event's official DigitalPool bracket; the Showdown was streamed live on Ultimate Pool USA's channels.
