A Full Friday on Both Sides of the Draw
Play resumes at 9:00 a.m. local time in Gandia, with the men's event running on both the winners' and losers' sides of the double-elimination bracket — winners' side round two plus a full slate of losers' rounds as the 165-man field thins toward Sunday's single-elimination phase.
The headline arrivals are two of the four Qatar World Cup semifinalists. Wojciech Szewczyk meets Niklas Dohr and fellow Pole Daniel Maciol faces Delmon Khwaja, both scheduled around 2:15 p.m. local time after being granted late starts following their deep runs in Doha.
Szewczyk, the Euro Tour standings leader, dropped his Doha semifinal to eventual champion Joshua Filler, while Maciol fell 11-10 in a hill-hill heartbreaker to Albert James Manas.
Alcaide Keeps Home Hopes Rolling
David Alcaide opened with two wins on home soil Thursday — a 9-0 shutout of compatriot David Prieto followed by a 9-4 decision over Poland's Dominik Regieli — and continues on the winners' side this morning against fellow Spaniard Raul Martin Muela.
Francisco Sanchez Ruiz, another former world champion playing at home, closed Thursday's evening session with a 9-4 win over Slovenia's Maj Badovinac and meets Poland's Radoslaw Babica today.
Women's Tournament Gets Underway
The Revora Spanish Women's Open begins today, with 52 players from 16 nations contesting races to 7 in the double-elimination phase. Top seed Pia Filler — the world No. 1 who has won two of the last three women's Euro Tour stops — is scheduled to enter in the afternoon session, around 4:00 p.m. local time. She carries a 230-point cushion atop the rankings into the season finale, where 15 of the top 20 are in the field.
Rankings on the Line at Season's End
Gandia is the final stop on the 2026 calendar, so every rack this week counts toward year-end positioning. Szewczyk leads the men's standings after winning the Antalya opener, finishing runner-up in Luxembourg and claiming a second WPA 10-ball world title in Vietnam — but the top ten behind him remains tightly packed and his late arrival leaves the door ajar.
The men's event carries a 60,700-euro prize fund, and WPA world ranking points are on offer on both the men's and women's tours for the first time. Both finals are scheduled for 8:00 p.m. Sunday, with Tables 1, 2 and 3 streamed live on the Pro Billiard TV YouTube channel. The live draw and scoring are on the EPBF site, and day-one results are tracked at NCUE Media.
